Ingredients

  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 250 ml warm milk
  • 75 g sugar
  • 75 g butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 7 g dry yeast
  • A pinch of salt

For the filling:

  • 100 g brown sugar
  • 75 g butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

For the icing:

  • 150 g powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the egg, softened butter, and yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. In a bowl, mix butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon to prepare the filling.
  6. Roll out the dough into a large rectangle on a floured surface.
  7. Spread the filling evenly over the dough.
  8. Roll tightly into a log and slice into even pieces.
  9. Place rolls into a greased baking dish, leaving space between them. Cover and let rise again for 20–30 minutes.
  10. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  11. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown.
  12. Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the icing.
  13. Spread icing over slightly warm rolls so it melts into the layers.

Notes

Do not overheat the milk to avoid killing the yeast.Use dental floss or a sharp knife for clean slices.Avoid adding too much flour to keep the rolls soft.Add nuts, raisins, or chocolate chips for variation. For richer flavor, use cream cheese icing instead of glaze.Store covered at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerate up to 5 days.Reheat gently and add a splash of milk if needed to restore softness.
