Ingredients

  • ½ cup brown sugar

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dates:
    Place chopped dates in a bowl. Pour hot water over them, add baking soda, and let sit for 10–15 minutes until softened.
  • Make the Batter:
    Cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Stir in vanilla extract.
  • Combine Ingredients:
    Fold in flour, baking powder, and salt. Gently mix in the softened date mixture until fully combined.
  • Bake:
    Pour batter into a greased baking dish or ramekins. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Prepare the Sauce:
    In a saucepan, combine maple syrup, brown sugar, and butter. Heat until melted and smooth. Stir in cream, orange zest, juice, and salt. Simmer until slightly thickened.
