These fairy bread cookies are soft, buttery sugar cookies topped with sweet icing and colorful sprinkles. Inspired by the classic party treat, they’re fun, easy to make, and perfect for birthdays, celebrations, or baking with kids.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 12 tablespoons milk (for icing)
  • 1/2 cup rainbow sprinkles

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, until a soft dough forms.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll into balls, and place on the prepared baking tray.
  • Gently flatten each cookie slightly with your hand or the bottom of a glass.
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
  • In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar with milk until smooth to create the icing.
  • Spread icing over each cooled cookie and immediately top with rainbow sprinkles.
  • Let the icing set before serving.

Notes

Chill the dough for 20–30 minutes if cookies spread too much during baking.Use “hundreds and thousands” sprinkles for the most authentic fairy bread look.Add a drop of almond extract for a subtle flavor twist.For thicker icing, reduce the milk slightly.Cookies can be decorated with colored icing for themed events.
