Slow Cooker Swiss Steak is a hearty comfort food made with tenderized beef simmered in a rich tomato-based sauce with onions, peppers, and spices. The slow cooking process transforms tougher cuts into melt-in-your-mouth beef, perfect for serving with mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef round steak (or cube steak)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 bell peppers, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

Instructions

  1. Season steak with salt and pepper, then dredge lightly in flour.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and brown steak on both sides.
  3. Transfer steak to the slow cooker.
  4. Add onions, bell peppers, garlic, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, and thyme.
  5. Stir gently to combine.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 7–8 hours or on high for 4–5 hours until beef is tender.
  7. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
