Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter (for frying)
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • 2 tbsp water (to mix with cornstarch, optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onion, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix just until combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into oval-shaped patties.
  3. Heat oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Sear patties for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and cook for about 5 minutes until tender.
  5. Pour in beef broth, scraping the bottom of the pan to deglaze. Bring to a simmer.
  6. For thicker gravy, mix cornstarch and water in a small bowl and stir into the broth. Cook until thickened.
  7. Return the patties to the skillet and spoon gravy over them. Cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until patties are cooked through.
  8. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
