Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread is a cozy, comforting loaf that combines the flavors of pumpkin, warm spices, and sweet chocolate chips. This moist, tender bread is perfect for fall and can be enjoyed year-round as a breakfast treat or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger (optional)
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the dry ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger (if using).
  3. Mix the wet ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, vegetable oil (or melted butter), sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined. Be careful not to overmix the batter to keep the bread tender.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips and nuts: Gently fold in the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts or pecans (if using) until evenly distributed.
  6. Bake the bread: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.
  7. Cool: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Serve: Slice and serve once the bread has cooled. Enjoy!

Notes

For a vegan version, replace the eggs with flax eggs (1 tbsp ground flaxseed + 3 tbsp water per egg), and use a plant-based oil (like coconut oil) instead of vegetable oil. For a dairy-free option, use dairy-free chocolate chips.Feel free to add other spices like ground cloves or allspice for extra flavor. You can substitute the chocolate chips with dried fruit, such as cranberries or raisins, for a different twist. If you prefer a more moist bread, try adding applesauce or sour cream to the batter.
