Pita and Hummus is a classic Mediterranean snack or appetizer that pairs soft, fluffy pita bread with creamy, garlicky hummus. It’s healthy, versatile, and ready in minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 3 tbsp olive oil (plus more for garnish)
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 24 tbsp water (to adjust consistency)
  • 46 pita breads, for serving
  • Paprika or za’atar, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, combine chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and salt. Blend until smooth.
  2. Add water, one tablespoon at a time, until the desired creamy consistency is reached.
  3. Taste and adjust seasoning with more lemon juice, garlic, or salt as needed.
  4. Warm pita bread in the oven, skillet, or toaster.
  5. Serve hummus in a bowl, drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with paprika or za’atar if desired, alongside warm pita bread.

Notes

Add roasted red peppers, caramelized onions, or sun-dried tomatoes for flavored hummus.Top with pine nuts, fresh parsley, or a drizzle of chili oil for variety.Make pita chips by brushing pita with olive oil, sprinkling with herbs, and baking until crisp.Use veggie sticks, crackers, or flatbread instead of pita for dipping.Store hummus up to 5 days in the fridge or freeze up to 3 months. Pita can be frozen up to 2 months.
