Peanut Butter Brownies are the ultimate dessert that combines the rich, fudgy texture of classic brownies with a swirl of creamy peanut butter. This indulgent treat offers the best of both worlds: the perfect balance of chocolate and peanut butter flavors, all in one delicious bite. These brownies are easy to make and will satisfy any sweet tooth with their perfect mix of decadence and comfort.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional for extra chocolatey goodness)
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (smooth or chunky, based on preference)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the oven and pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch square baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Make the brownie batter: In a medium bowl, combine the melted butter and sugar, whisking until smooth. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until well incorporated. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined. If you’re adding chocolate chips, fold them into the batter at this point.
  3. Make the peanut butter swirl: In a small bowl, whisk together the peanut butter, powdered sugar, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. If the peanut butter mixture is too thick, you can heat it slightly in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to make it easier to swirl.
  4. Assemble the brownies: Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Dollop spoonfuls of the peanut butter mixture on top of the brownie batter, then use a knife or skewer to swirl the peanut butter into the brownie batter in a marbled pattern. Don’t over-mix—just a few swirls to create a beautiful marbled effect.
  5. Bake the brownies: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (it should not be completely clean, as you want the brownies to remain fudgy). If you prefer them a bit more set, bake for 5 extra minutes.
  6. Cool and serve: Let the brownies cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before cutting into squares. This allows the peanut butter to set and makes them easier to slice. Serve them warm for gooey goodness or at room temperature.

Notes

Nutty Peanut Butter Brownies: Add chopped peanuts to the peanut butter swirl for an extra crunch.Peanut Butter Fudge Brownies: For a richer peanut butter flavor, you can increase the amount of peanut butter in the swirl or layer extra peanut butter on top of the brownies after baking.Swirl with Jam: Add a layer of strawberry or raspberry jam along with the peanut butter swirl for a fruity twist on the classic peanut butter and chocolate combination.

  • Vegan Option: Use dairy-free butter and a flax egg (1 tablespoon ground flaxseed mixed with 2.5 tablespoons water) instead of eggs for a vegan version of these brownies.
