Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup pastina (tiny star-shaped pasta or other small pasta)
  • 3 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1 egg, whisked
  • Optional: 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
  • Optional: chopped parsley, lemon zest, garlic, or olive oil for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a medium pot, bring the broth to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  2. Add pastina and cook according to package instructions (usually 5–7 minutes), stirring occasionally.
  3. Once pasta is tender, reduce heat to low.
  4. Stir in butter and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Optional: Slowly drizzle in the whisked egg while stirring constantly to create egg ribbons.
  6. Add grated Parmesan and stir until melted.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley, lemon zest, or a drizzle of olive oil if desired.

Notes

Use chicken broth for traditional flavor or vegetable broth for a vegetarian option.Add finely chopped veggies like spinach, peas, or carrots for more nutrition. For a creamier version, stir in a splash of milk or cream with the butter.Reheat with extra broth as pastina absorbs liquid over time.
