Oven Baked Chicken Parmesan is a healthier take on the classic Italian-American dish, featuring juicy chicken breasts coated in crispy breadcrumbs, topped with marinara sauce and melted mozzarella and parmesan. Baked to perfection, it’s a comforting and crowd-pleasing meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • Olive oil or cooking spray
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Pound chicken breasts to an even thickness and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Set up a dredging station with three plates: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of breadcrumbs and parmesan.
  4. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, dip into the egg, and coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.
  5. Place chicken on the prepared baking sheet and lightly spray or drizzle tops with olive oil.
  6. Bake for 20–25 minutes until the coating is golden and chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  7. Remove from oven, spoon marinara sauce over each chicken piece, and top with mozzarella cheese.
  8. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5–7 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving.
