Mason jar ice cream is a quick and easy no-churn dessert made by shaking cream, sugar, and vanilla in a jar before freezing. It’s creamy, customizable, and perfect for small-batch homemade ice cream without an ice cream maker.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp sugar (or sweetener of choice)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional mix-ins: chocolate chips, crushed cookies, fruit, caramel, or sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Pour heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, and salt into a clean mason jar.
  2. Seal tightly with a lid and shake vigorously for 4–5 minutes, until the mixture thickens and doubles in volume.
  3. Place the jar in the freezer for 3–4 hours, or until the ice cream is firm.
  4. Scoop directly from the jar or enjoy straight with a spoon.

Notes

Shake until the mixture coats the back of a spoon—this ensures it will freeze into the right texture. For chocolate flavor, add 1 tbsp cocoa powder before shaking.Use coconut cream for a dairy-free alternative.Let the jar sit at room temperature for 5 minutes before scooping for easier serving.
