London Broil is a flavorful and juicy steak, marinated with savory, tangy, and slightly sweet ingredients, then broiled or grilled to perfection for a tender, delicious dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 to 2 pounds flank steak or top round steak
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey (or maple syrup)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, Dijon mustard, honey, black pepper, rosemary, and thyme. Taste and adjust salt if needed.
  2. Marinate the Meat: Place the steak in a resealable bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over it. Seal and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or up to 8 hours.
  3. Preheat the Broiler or Grill: Preheat the broiler on high or prepare the grill for medium-high heat. Position the oven rack about 4-6 inches from the heat source if broiling.
  4. Cook the London Broil: Remove the steak from the marinade and discard the marinade. Broil or grill the steak for 4-6 minutes per side, depending on thickness and desired doneness. Aim for an internal temperature of 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare and 140°F (60°C) for medium.
  5. Rest the Meat: Let the steak rest for 5-10 minutes after cooking to allow the juices to redistribute.
  6. Serve: Slice the steak thinly against the grain and serve with your favorite sides.

Notes

For added flavor, try adding grated ginger or citrus zest to the marinade. To make it spicier, add red pepper flakes or jalapeños to the marinade.Grilling is a great alternative to broiling; just ensure the grill is preheated to medium-high heat.
