Instant Pot mashed sweet potatoes are creamy, naturally sweet, and ready in just 20 minutes. They make an easy and versatile side dish for weeknight dinners, holidays, or meal prep.

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1/3 cup milk or cream
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Optional: 2 tbsp maple syrup, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, pinch of nutmeg, roasted garlic, or fresh herbs

Instructions

  1. Peel and cube sweet potatoes into even chunks.
  2. Pour 1 cup of water into the Instant Pot. Place a steamer basket or trivet inside.
  3. Add the sweet potatoes to the basket and lock the lid.
  4. Cook on HIGH pressure for 10 minutes, then quick release the steam.
  5. Drain excess water, then return sweet potatoes to the pot.
  6. Mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy.
  7. Adjust seasoning and add optional flavors like maple syrup, cinnamon, garlic, or herbs to taste.
