Honey bars are soft, chewy dessert squares made with real honey for a naturally sweet, comforting flavor. Easy to make and versatile, they’re perfect for snacks, tea time, or casual desserts.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional additions:
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
  • 1/3 cup raisins or dried fruit
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and honey until smooth and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  5. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients until just incorporated.
  6. Fold in optional nuts or dried fruit, if using.
  7. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Cool completely in the pan. Dust with powdered sugar before cutting into bars, if desired.
