Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped or in chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and chopped chocolate together in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth.
  3. Stir in the granulated sugar and brown sugar while the mixture is still warm.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Fold gently until just combined—do not overmix.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before slicing for the best texture.
