Ingredients

  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella balls or slices
  • 2 cups cherry tomatoes or sliced heirloom tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tbsp balsamic glaze or reduction
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup black olives (for eyes or spider shapes)
  • Optional: edible food markers, Halloween cookie cutters, or mini bell peppers (for decorations)

Instructions

  1. Arrange alternating slices of mozzarella and tomatoes on a platter, or pair cherry tomatoes with mozzarella balls for a mini version.
  2. Tuck fresh basil leaves between the tomatoes and cheese or scatter them over the top.
  3. Drizzle with olive oil and balsamic glaze.
  4. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  5. Use edible markers or cookie cutters to create spooky faces or shapes on mozzarella slices or balls.
  6. Make spiders by halving olives for the bodies and slicing legs from another olive. Place on top of the salad for decoration.
  7. Optionally, use orange bell pepper slices to make pumpkins or jack-o’-lantern shapes.
  8. Serve immediately or chill briefly before serving for best texture.
