Golden Gate Bars are rich, chewy dessert bars made with a buttery crust, sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, and coconut. They’re easy to make, layered with texture, and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup shredded sweetened coconut
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional, such as walnuts or pecans)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, and salt. Add melted butter and stir until a crumbly dough forms.
  3. Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust.
  4. Bake the crust for 10–12 minutes, until lightly golden. Remove from oven.
  5. In another bowl, mix sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract until combined.
  6. Pour the milk mixture evenly over the warm crust.
  7. Sprinkle chocolate chips, shredded coconut, and chopped nuts (if using) evenly over the top.
  8. Return to oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, until edges are golden and center is set.
  9. Let cool completely in the pan before slicing into bars.
