Frosted sugar cookie bars are soft, chewy dessert bars with the classic flavor of sugar cookies topped with creamy frosting and colorful sprinkles. They’re baked in one pan, making them easy and perfect for parties, holidays, or a fun treat anytime.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract (optional)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 23 tbsp heavy cream or milk (for frosting)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Food coloring (optional, for frosting)
  • Sprinkles (optional, for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract and almond extract (if using).
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a smooth dough forms.
  6. Spread the dough evenly into the prepared pan using a spatula or your hands.
  7. Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden and center is set. Do not overbake.
  8. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before frosting.
  9. For the frosting, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, cream or milk, and vanilla extract. Add food coloring if desired.
  10. Spread the frosting over the cooled bars and decorate with sprinkles.
  11. Cut into squares and serve.
