Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup hot sauce (like Frank’s RedHot)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
  • Chopped green onions (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the meatballs: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Roll the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and set aside.
  2. Cook the meatballs: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook for 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally until browned on all sides and cooked through. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Prepare the firecracker sauce: In the same skillet, add the hot sauce, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and garlic powder. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer. Let the sauce cook for 3-4 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.
  4. Coat the meatballs: Return the cooked meatballs to the skillet, tossing them in the sauce until they are evenly coated. Let them simmer in the sauce for another 2-3 minutes, ensuring they soak up all the flavor.
  5. Serve: Remove the meatballs from the skillet and serve immediately, garnishing with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired. Serve them as an appetizer, on top of rice, or with noodles.

Notes

Adjust the heat: If you want to tone down the spiciness, reduce the amount of hot sauce or add more honey to balance the heat.Sweet & spicy: Add more honey for a sweeter firecracker sauce or more hot sauce for extra heat!Use ground turkey or chicken: If you prefer a leaner meatball, you can swap the ground beef for ground turkey or chicken.Vegetarian option: Use plant-based meatballs or make your own with lentils or chickpeas for a vegetarian option.
