A cozy and creamy homemade hot chocolate made with warm milk, cocoa or chocolate, and a touch of sweetness. Perfect for chilly days or relaxing evenings.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk (dairy or plant-based)
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder or 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons sugar or sweetener (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional toppings: whipped cream, marshmallows, cinnamon, chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. In a small pot over medium heat, warm the milk until it begins to steam (do not boil).
  2. Whisk in cocoa powder or chocolate chips until fully melted and smooth.
  3. Stir in sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
  4. Continue cooking for 2–3 more minutes, stirring frequently, until hot chocolate is heated through.
  5. Taste and adjust sweetness or chocolate intensity as desired.
  6. Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or your favorite toppings.
