This Easy Hamburger Casserole is a cheesy, hearty, and comforting dish made with ground beef, pasta, tomato sauce, and melty cheese. It’s quick to prepare, kid-friendly, and perfect for busy weeknights or meal prep.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • 12 oz elbow macaroni or other short pasta
  • 2 cups tomato sauce or marinara sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Olive oil or cooking spray for greasing the baking dish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until softened.
  4. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  5. Stir in garlic (if using), tomato sauce, diced tomatoes (if using), Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–10 minutes.
  6. Combine cooked pasta and meat sauce in the skillet or a large bowl.
  7. Pour half of the mixture into the prepared baking dish and sprinkle with half of the cheddar and mozzarella cheese.
  8. Add the remaining mixture and top with the remaining cheese.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
  10. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  11. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
