Caprese Salad is a classic Italian appetizer that celebrates the fresh, simple flavors of ripe tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and fragrant basil. Drizzled with olive oil and balsamic glaze, it’s a light and refreshing dish that’s perfect for summer—or anytime you want a fresh, elegant salad.

Ingredients

  • 34 ripe tomatoes (such as Roma, heirloom, or beefsteak)
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 12 tbsp balsamic glaze or reduction
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Slice the tomatoes and mozzarella into 1/4-inch thick slices.
  2. On a serving platter, alternate and slightly overlap the slices of tomato and mozzarella.
  3. Tuck whole basil leaves between the layers.
  4. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze.
  5. Sprinkle with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  6. Serve immediately, or chill briefly to let flavors meld before serving.
