Date Caramel is a smooth, naturally sweet, and wholesome spread made primarily from Medjool dates. It’s a healthier alternative to traditional caramel sauce—free of refined sugar, dairy, and artificial ingredients—perfect for drizzling, dipping, or spreading.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Medjool dates, pitted and soft
  • ¼½ cup water or dairy-free milk (adjust for desired consistency)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional add-ins: ½ teaspoon cinnamon, 1 tablespoon nut butter, 1 teaspoon maple syrup, 1 teaspoon coconut oil

Instructions

  1. If the dates are firm, soak them in warm water for 10–15 minutes. Drain before using.
  2. Add the pitted dates, ¼ cup of water or milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt to a food processor or high-speed blender.
  3. Blend until smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides as needed. Add more liquid 1 tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  4. Taste and adjust by adding cinnamon, nut butter, maple syrup, or coconut oil if desired.
  5. Transfer to a jar or airtight container and store in the refrigerator.

Notes

Use Medjool dates for the best texture and natural caramel flavor.Start with less liquid and add gradually to avoid making it too runny.Add sea salt for a salted caramel version or nut butter for extra creaminess.Perfect for toast, fruit dip, yogurt bowls, pancakes, or baking. Can be frozen in portions and thawed as needed.
