Crispy Chicken Parmesan is a classic Italian-American dish featuring golden breaded chicken cutlets topped with marinara sauce and melted mozzarella. Perfectly crispy and cheesy, it’s a hearty and comforting meal served with pasta or salad.

Ingredients

  • 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts (sliced in half lengthwise to make 4 cutlets)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup bread crumbs (Italian seasoned or panko)
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1/4 cup olive oil or vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tbsp fresh basil or parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Pasta, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Slice chicken breasts in half lengthwise to create thinner cutlets. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.
  3. Dredge each cutlet in flour, dip in beaten eggs, then coat in a mixture of bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese.
  4. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry chicken cutlets until golden brown and crispy on both sides. Transfer to a baking dish.
  5. Spoon marinara sauce evenly over each cutlet, then top with shredded mozzarella and a sprinkle of Parmesan.
  6. Bake for 15–20 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly and chicken reaches 165°F (74°C).
  7. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and serve with pasta or salad.

Notes

For extra crunch, use panko bread crumbs instead of regular bread crumbs. To make it lighter, bake breaded chicken instead of frying.Add red pepper flakes to the marinara for a spicy kick.Mix mozzarella with provolone or Parmesan for a cheesier version.Freeze breaded cutlets before adding sauce and cheese for a make-ahead option.
