Crispy Cheesy Hash Brown Patties are a delicious and crispy side dish that combines golden, perfectly fried hash browns with melted cheese. These patties are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, making them a perfect addition to breakfast, brunch, or as a snack!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups frozen hash browns (thawed or fresh grated potatoes)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or butter) for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the thawed hash browns, shredded cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese (if using), flour, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
  2. Form the mixture into small patties, about 2-3 inches in diameter, pressing gently to compact them.
  3. Heat the oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Remove the patties from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  5. Serve the crispy cheesy hash brown patties hot, garnished with chopped green onions or a dollop of sour cream if desired.

Notes

You can use a mix of different cheeses, like mozzarella or gouda, for a different flavor profile. If you like a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or some chopped jalapeños to the mixture. For a healthier version, bake the patties in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, flippinghalfway through, instead of frying. These patties can be served as a breakfast side, snack, or even a light meal with a salad.
