Cream Cheese Danish is a delightful pastry made with flaky puff pastry and a rich, creamy cream cheese filling, topped with a sweet glaze. This simple yet indulgent dessert is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a treat with coffee or tea. Its buttery, crisp layers and creamy filling make it a crowd-pleasing choice for any occasion.
For the dough:
1 package puff pastry (about 2 sheets)
For the cream cheese filling:
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg yolk
For the glaze:
1/4 cup powdered sugar
Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Prepare the cream cheese filling: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with granulated sugar until smooth. Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract, mixing until the filling is smooth and creamy. Set aside.
Prepare the puff pastry: Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into 4 squares (8 squares total).
Assemble the danishes: Place a spoonful of cream cheese filling in the center of each puff pastry square. Fold the edges of the pastry slightly over the filling to create a border. Optionally, fold the corners toward the center to create a more enclosed shape.
Bake the danishes: Place the filled pastries on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
Prepare the glaze: While the danishes bake, whisk the powdered sugar with milk (or water) until smooth and drizzle-able.
Drizzle the glaze: Once the danishes are baked and slightly cooled, drizzle the glaze over each pastry.
Serve: Let the danishes cool for a few minutes before serving. They are best enjoyed warm but are also delicious at room temperature.
Fruit-Topped Danish: Add fruit like strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries on top of the cream cheese filling before baking.Cinnamon Danish: Add a pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg to the cream cheese filling for extra warmth.Almond Filling: Add a tablespoon of almond extract to the cream cheese filling for a subtle almond flavor.Gluten-Free Danish: Use gluten-free puff pastry to make this recipe gluten-free.
