This simple yet indulgent dessert is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a treat with coffee or tea. Its buttery, crisp layers and creamy filling make it a crowd-pleasing choice for any occasion.

Ingredients

For the dough:

  • 1 package puff pastry (about 2 sheets)

For the cream cheese filling:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 egg yolk

For the glaze:

  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

  • 12 teaspoons milk (or water)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • Prepare the cream cheese filling: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with granulated sugar until smooth. Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract, mixing until the filling is smooth and creamy. Set aside.

  • Prepare the puff pastry: Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into 4 squares (8 squares total).

  • Assemble the danishes: Place a spoonful of cream cheese filling in the center of each puff pastry square. Fold the edges of the pastry slightly over the filling to create a border. Optionally, fold the corners toward the center to create a more enclosed shape.

  • Bake the danishes: Place the filled pastries on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.

  • Prepare the glaze: While the danishes bake, whisk the powdered sugar with milk (or water) until smooth and drizzle-able.

  • Drizzle the glaze: Once the danishes are baked and slightly cooled, drizzle the glaze over each pastry.

  • Serve: Let the danishes cool for a few minutes before serving. They are best enjoyed warm but are also delicious at room temperature.
