Cream cheese cookies are soft, tender, and rich with a subtle tang from cream cheese. They melt in your mouth and are perfect for any occasion, whether plain or decorated.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and cream cheese together until smooth and creamy.
  4. Add granulated sugar and beat until light and fluffy.
  5. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  6. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  7. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions and roll into balls. Place on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  8. Gently flatten each ball with the bottom of a glass or your palm.
  9. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are set and bottoms are lightly golden.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Chill dough for 20–30 minutes if it becomes too soft to handle.Full-fat cream cheese gives the best texture and flavor.Add-ins like chocolate chips, lemon zest, or nuts can customize the flavor.Great as sandwich cookies with jam or frosting in the middle.
