A Classic Cheese Ball is a creamy and savory appetizer made with cream cheese, sharp cheddar, and a blend of seasonings, all rolled in crunchy nuts. It’s a crowd-pleasing dish that’s perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped nuts (such as pecans, walnuts, or almonds)
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Use a hand mixer or spoon to mix until smooth and well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into a ball, ensuring it’s tightly packed. You can also form it into a log or other shape.
  3. Place the finely chopped nuts in a shallow dish. Roll the cheese ball in the nuts, gently pressing them into the surface to coat evenly.
  4. Wrap the cheese ball in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1-2 hours to firm up and let the flavors meld.
  5. Before serving, garnish with fresh parsley (optional) and serve with crackers, fresh vegetables, or bread.

Notes

If you prefer, you can substitute sour cream for the mustard to make it tangier, or add different herbs like chives or parsley to the mixture. For a spicy kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or diced jalapeños to the cheese mixture. If you have a nut allergy, feel free to omit the nuts and coat the cheese ball in crushed pretzels or herbs for texture. To make ahead, store the cheese ball in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, or freeze it for up to 1 month (without the nuts). Thaw before serving and coat with nuts when ready.
