Churros are a classic Spanish treat made from crispy, golden-brown fried dough, dusted with cinnamon sugar. Served with a rich dipping sauce, these indulgent, sweet treats are perfect for breakfast, dessert, or any occasion.

Ingredients

  • For the churros:
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • For the cinnamon sugar:
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, sugar, salt, and butter. Heat over medium heat until the mixture comes to a boil and the butter melts. Remove from heat.
  2. Stir in the flour all at once, mixing vigorously until the dough comes together and pulls away from the sides of the pan. Continue stirring for 1-2 minutes to ensure it’s smooth.
  3. Allow the dough to cool slightly. Add eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each. Stir in the vanilla extract. The dough should be thick and slightly sticky.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large pot or skillet to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star-shaped tip.
  5. Pipe the dough into the hot oil, cutting it into 4-6 inch pieces with scissors. Fry the churros in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy. Remove from oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate.
  6. In a shallow bowl, mix together the sugar and cinnamon. While the churros are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon sugar until coated evenly.
  7. Serve immediately with a dipping sauce of your choice, such as chocolate sauce, caramel, or dulce de leche. Enjoy!
