Chocolate Dump Cake is a rich, gooey, and indulgent dessert that requires minimal effort. Simply ‘dump’ the ingredients into a baking dish and bake for a warm, fudgy treat. This cake combines the richness of chocolate with the fruitiness of pie filling and a chocolate chip topping, creating the ultimate dessert for chocolate lovers.

Ingredients

  • 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix (or devil’s food cake mix)
  • 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling (or any fruit pie filling you prefer, like blueberry or apple)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or lightly butter a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Pour the cherry pie filling (or any fruit pie filling you’re using) evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  3. Sprinkle the dry chocolate cake mix evenly over the pie filling. Do not stir; just spread it out to cover the filling.
  4. Pour the melted butter evenly over the cake mix. Again, don’t stir it; the butter will soak through and create the cake’s top layer.
  5. Sprinkle the chocolate chips on top of the cake mix and butter.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cake is set. You may see some bubbling around the edges—this is normal and means the cake is cooking properly!
  7. Let the cake cool slightly before serving. It’s best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream on top.

Notes

You can substitute the cherry pie filling with other fruit pie fillings like blueberry, apple, or strawberry. If you prefer, you can omit the chocolate chips for a less rich, but still delicious, version of the cake. This cake can also be made with a gluten-free chocolate cake mix to make it gluten-free.
