This Chocolate Cherry Dump Cake is an easy, rich dessert made with cherry pie filling, chocolate cake mix, and butter. The sweet cherries create a gooey fruity base while the chocolate topping bakes into a soft, slightly crisp cake layer. Perfect for quick desserts, family gatherings, and holidays.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans (21 oz each) cherry pie filling

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

  • ½ cup chocolate chips (optional)

  • ¼ cup chopped nuts such as almonds or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  • Spread the cherry pie filling evenly across the bottom of the baking dish.

  • Sprinkle chocolate chips or chopped nuts over the cherry layer if using.

  • Evenly sprinkle the dry chocolate cake mix over the cherries, covering the entire surface.

  • Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the cake mix, making sure most of the surface is moistened.

  • Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is set and slightly crisp.

  • Remove from the oven and allow the cake to cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

  • Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

Try to spread the butter evenly so the cake mix bakes properly and doesn’t stay powdery.Dark chocolate cake mix can be used for a deeper chocolate flavor. This dessert tastes best served warm with vanilla ice cream. You can also add extra chocolate chips for a richer version.
