Chicken Parmesan is a classic Italian-American comfort dish featuring crispy breaded chicken cutlets topped with marinara sauce and melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. It’s perfect for both casual dinners and special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 cup olive oil or vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 1/2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Slice chicken breasts in half horizontally to create cutlets. Pound to even thickness using a meat mallet.
  3. Season chicken with salt and pepper on both sides.
  4. Prepare a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mix of panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
  5. Dredge each chicken cutlet in flour, then dip in beaten eggs, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  6. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken cutlets for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  7. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce in a baking dish. Place the fried chicken cutlets on top.
  8. Spoon more marinara sauce over each piece and top with mozzarella and extra Parmesan cheese.
  9. Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Garnish with chopped basil or parsley if desired. Serve hot.
