Cherry Almond Cookies are soft, buttery treats infused with almond extract and dotted with sweet maraschino cherries. These elegant cookies are perfect for holidays, special occasions, or everyday indulgence.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped maraschino cherries (drained and patted dry)
  • Optional: 1/4 cup sliced almonds for garnish
  • Optional: 1/2 cup powdered sugar + 1 tablespoon milk + 1/4 teaspoon almond extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg and almond extract, mixing until well combined.
  5. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  6. Gently fold in chopped maraschino cherries.
  7. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart.
  8. Top with sliced almonds if desired.
  9. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  11. Optional: Drizzle cooled cookies with almond glaze made from powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract.

Pat cherries dry to avoid excess moisture in the dough.Chilling the dough for 20–30 minutes helps prevent spreading.Glaze adds a sweet finish but is optional.Use a cookie scoop for even portioning and uniform cookies.Store with parchment between layers to prevent sticking.
