Cheese Curds are a delicious snack made from fresh chunks of cheddar cheese. When breaded and fried, they become golden and crispy on the outside with a gooey, melty center—perfect for parties, snacks, or dipping.

  • 1 lb fresh cheese curds (white or yellow cheddar)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup milk or buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs or panko
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or peanut)

Instructions

  1. Prepare three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs and milk, and one with breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, and optional garlic powder.
  2. Pat the cheese curds dry with paper towels.
  3. Dredge each cheese curd in flour, dip into the egg mixture, then coat with the breadcrumb mixture.
  4. Place coated curds on a tray and refrigerate for 15–30 minutes to help the coating adhere.
  5. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
