Cardamom cake is a warm and aromatic dessert made with ground cardamom for a sweet, floral flavor. Moist and tender, it’s perfect for tea time, special occasions, or anytime you crave a unique and comforting cake.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk or buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: powdered sugar or glaze for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round or loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, cardamom, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry. Mix until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 35–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with glaze if desired before serving.

Notes

Add a citrus glaze with lemon or orange juice for brightness.Include chopped pistachios or almonds for texture.Use part almond flour for a nutty flavor.Serve with whipped cream or yogurt and berries.Freshly ground cardamom pods offer a more intense aroma.
