The combination of flavors and textures makes it a hit with kids and adults alike, and it’s simple to prepare with just a few pantry staples!

Ingredients

For the casserole:

  • 4 cups fresh broccoli florets (or frozen, thawed, and drained)

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken soup)

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise

  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (plus extra for topping)

  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for a crispier topping)

  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted (for topping)

Instructions

  • Prepare the broccoli:
If using fresh broccoli, steam or blanch the florets in boiling water for 3-4 minutes until tender. Drain and set aside. If using frozen broccoli, thaw and drain it thoroughly to remove excess moisture.

  • Make the cheese sauce:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, and shredded cheddar cheese until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  • Assemble the casserole:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter. Add the cooked broccoli to the baking dish and pour the cheese sauce over it. Stir gently to combine and coat the broccoli evenly.

  • Prepare the topping:
In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs with the melted butter. Stir until the breadcrumbs are evenly coated.

Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the casserole, then top with extra shredded cheddar cheese.

  • Bake the casserole:
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the top is golden brown. For a crispier topping, broil the casserole for 2-3 minutes at the end of baking—watch closely to avoid burning.

  • Serve:
Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving. This will make it easier to cut into portions. Serve hot with your favorite main dish!
