Bread dipping oil is a flavorful appetizer made with olive oil, garlic, herbs, and seasonings. Perfect for pairing with crusty bread, it adds elegance and taste to any meal or gathering.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar (optional, for added depth)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (or 1 teaspoon garlic powder)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a spicy kick)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Freshly grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl or shallow dish, combine the olive oil, balsamic vinegar (if using), minced garlic, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Stir everything together to evenly distribute the spices in the oil.
  2. Let the oil sit for 10-15 minutes at room temperature to allow the flavors to meld and intensify. This step is optional, but it enhances the flavor.
  3. Pour the dipping oil into a small bowl or dish and serve with freshly baked bread, such as Italian bread, baguettes, or focaccia. Optionally, sprinkle freshly grated Parmesan cheese over the top for added flavor.

Notes

If you want to experiment, add fresh herbs like thyme, rosemary, or parsley for an aromatic infusion. For a citrusy twist, add a few drops of lemon juice or some lemon zest.If you like it spicier, increase the amount of red pepper flakes or add a small amount of chili oil. This oil also works great as a marinade for grilled meats or as a topping for pasta and roasted vegetables.Store any leftover dipping oil in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Bring to room temperature before serving.
