Apple Crumble Bars are a layered dessert featuring a buttery oat crust, spiced apple filling, and a golden crumb topping. They offer all the flavors of apple pie in an easy-to-make, handheld treat perfect for any time of year.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cups apples, peeled and chopped (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch or 2 tbsp flour (to thicken filling)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Pour in melted butter and stir until crumbly.
  3. Press two-thirds of the mixture into the prepared pan to form an even crust.
  4. In another bowl, toss chopped apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla until coated.
  5. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining crumble mixture over the apples.
  7. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling slightly at the edges.
  8. Let cool completely in the pan. For clean cuts, refrigerate for 1–2 hours before slicing.
