Air fryer mozzarella sticks are a lighter take on the classic appetizer, featuring gooey melted cheese inside a crispy golden coating. Perfect for parties, game day, or a quick snack, they’re easy to make, freezer-friendly, and ready in minutes.

Ingredients

  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs (or plain breadcrumbs with Italian seasoning)
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Cut mozzarella sticks in half for smaller portions if desired.
  2. Prepare three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mix of breadcrumbs, panko, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Roll each cheese stick in flour, dip in egg, then coat with breadcrumbs. For best results, repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating for a double layer.
  4. Place coated sticks on a parchment-lined tray and freeze for at least 1 hour to prevent cheese from leaking during cooking.
  5. Preheat air fryer to 390°F (200°C).
  6. Lightly spray mozzarella sticks with cooking spray and arrange them in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  7. Cook for 6–8 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
  8. Serve immediately with marinara sauce or your favorite dip.

Notes

Use pepper jack or cheddar string cheese for variety.Add cayenne pepper or chili flakes to the breadcrumbs for spice.Crushed pretzels or cornflakes can replace breadcrumbs for a different crunch.Make gluten-free by using gluten-free flour and breadcrumbs.Add grated Parmesan to the coating for extra flavor.
