This Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan recipe delivers crispy, golden breaded chicken topped with rich marinara sauce and melted mozzarella—without deep frying. Quick, easy, and lighter than the traditional version, this air fryer chicken parmesan is perfect for busy weeknights while still packing classic Italian-American flavor.
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 large eggs
1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs (or plain)
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 cup marinara sauce
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Olive oil spray
Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
Pound chicken breasts to an even thickness. Season both sides with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
In one bowl, beat the eggs. In another bowl, combine breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese.
Dip each chicken breast into the eggs, then coat evenly in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently so it adheres well.
Lightly spray both sides of the breaded chicken with olive oil spray.
Place chicken in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 8–10 minutes, flip, and cook an additional 5–7 minutes, until internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
Spoon marinara sauce over each piece and top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
Return to air fryer and cook for 2–3 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Garnish with fresh basil if desired and serve immediately.
Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crispiness.
Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket for even browning.
For a low-carb version, substitute breadcrumbs with almond flour.
You can freeze the cooked breaded chicken before adding sauce and cheese.
Always check doneness with a meat thermometer.
